Dealer Spotlight: Jill Dufau Vintage Textile Arts

With only three weeks until our spring Antiques and Old Stuff Show, we are excited to showcase our fantastic dealers! This week, our Dealer Spotlights are back and we are chatting with Jill Dufau about her Vintage Textile Arts. We are inspired by the motivations she gathers from taking something used to create something new!

Tell us how your passion for textiles started.

I have always been drawn to vintage textiles from a young age. I started creating with them when I was a teen, so for almost 50 years now! The graphics in the textiles completely captivate me. I love the colors and textures, they are just incredibly beautiful and give me so much inspiration.

What is it about textiles that draws you to them?

Textiles are also unique, and many are one-of-a-kind finds, so their scarcity makes me love them even more. Like most things from days gone by, the thrill of “the hunt” is exhilarating. I love envisioning what I can do with that rare find. What can I say? They just draw me to them!

How do you choose your textiles?

In a previous life, many of these textiles hung as draperies and adorned kitchens and bedrooms. They were enjoyed for a time in one form or another. Now, they return for a second life – it is the ultimate recycle! It brings me delight to turn these classic home decorating linens into pieces that others can enjoy.

So, what exactly do you create?

From the repurposed textiles, I create jackets, aprons, dresses, purses, skirts, pillows and so much more. I try to make something for all ages, too!

How did you learn about the Three Speckled Hens Antiques and Old Stuff Show?

A few years back, my dear friend Kathie Poston told me about Three Speckled Hens Antiques and Old Stuff Show. Since then, we have been participating in this show, and other shows up and down the state of California. It has been a wonderful experience that I am excited to share.

Where can we find your textile creations?

I hope you stop by our booth at the Antiques and Old Stuff Show to say hi. There’s always something new to find, and we will help you look for that perfect textile that matches your taste and personality! You can also find us on Facebook and Instagram, or visit our website for more information!
